What are little girls made of sugar + spice and don’t forget fashion! We got an interesting assignment this week from a new agency out of Austin. The job was a brand overhaul for a boutique clothing store and they needed everything from clothing product photography, interior photography to environmental portraits. Plus the final images needed to be shoot in time for a web reality video for the agency. It was an intense few days of shooting but we rocked the shoot. Check out some of the final photos and if you ever want something unique for your kiddo check out Little Closets located in Friendswood Texas, tell Sanjala Laurie sent you! They have an amazing assortment of all kind of kids clothing designers like Mud Pie, Ooh La La Couture, & Giggle Moon.
It was straight out of a fashion shoot scene, models, lights, grip assistants, I knew I was in for a treat as I walked into the Look Fabulous Tour featuring Linsday Adler and Lou Freeman. There they were, Adler and Freeman looking fabulous with Spider holsters and Canon camera’s strapped to their side, with hair blowing looking all fierce. Okay, okay, so maybe I Beyonced it up a little, you get the idea. The scene was set for a fabulous day of learning and I was so game. How did I hear of this tour you ask? I came upon a webinar on Creative Live several months back with Lindsay Adler, lets just say I was an immediate fan. A lot of her teachings coincided with what I was doing and it just gave me more confidence in my methods. I briefly had an e-mail chat with her and swore when she came to town I would sooo be at the seminar. Lucky for me, a few months later Look Fabulous Tour was in full swing and being sponsored by the fabulous Millers Lab. The two woman went through Fashion Flare lighting schemes, inspiration, styling, marketing and more. And with the live demonstrations, it was so good it would make you want to slap your mamma. I left feeling totally inspired and empowered. The icing on the cake was that these two woman were totally down to earth and answered any questions you had. If you missed out I would totally suggest hitching a ride to the next town to try to catch the tour. I promise you will be totally inspired. Just check out this awesomeness that I created while on set. Thanks Lindsay Adler and Lou Freeman, you two chicks totally rock!
I am so excited to say that Laurie Perez Photography got our work shown in the Millers Lab booth this year at the PPA and WPPI conferences. We are thrilled that our work can be examples of inspirations for other photographers. The canvas was a gift form them and now hangs in our studio. It’s huge and very impressive in the photo studio gallery. We heart Millers! Check it out.
Thought I would share this awesome little photo adventure. Houston Fashion week member Victor Quinteros, asked us to capture the Jeans Fashion show. So here is a snippet of our night! Let me say that fashion shows can be intense, especially being back stage with hangers and models flying all over the place! We still got some rocking shots and really enjoyed photographing this jean inspired show.
This week has been eventful! Not just with shoots, but living up to my rightful title as “The Cat Whisper.” Ever since I could remember I have been saving kittens and cats from danger. I recall one time I found a baby kitten in an abandoned home, how did I know she was in there you ask?… I heard it meow from outside and crawled in through a broken window to get the cat. The sad part is I am so allergic to cats so I can’t own one! But, I sure do enjoy saving them! Maybe I would even enjoy doing some pet photography. Check out this little cute-eyed tabby that I found recently under my house. I think someone left her and ran. Good news is I found her a home, and her new momma is a photographer, so you know she is super cool! Now, don’t be leaving cats at my doorstep, if you looking to save one. Haha. Just do the right thing and found these little ones a good home.
I typically don’t get asked to do studio sessions for engagement pics, but when my lovely couple wanted to do some classic portraits in his traditional culture attire I was intrigued. The idea was to do traditional portraits for their parents with a little twist. They sought out some amazing attire for the photos and even got Segun Gele, the master of Nigeria’s gravity defying headgear to do the wrap that she adorned. I am super excited with the results and definitely will be doing this again!
The Blue hole, nestled in the heart of Wimberley Texas, is one of the best swimming holes I have encountered. Surrounded by 100 to 300 hundred-year-old Cypress trees, the creek is made of natural spring water that is cold and clear, making it a delightful place on a hot day. My family and I spent most of the day splashing around the creek and swinging from the man made swings off the trees, and enjoying a laugh or two over who had the funniest jump. As for me, I think I won the title because one particular move that made the swing propel me back into the tree, then into the water. Oh yes, I though I might just stay under the water and swim away it was that hilarious. Overall, it is a great place and I can totally see myself doing a photo shoot out there with someone adventurous couples!
This one is totally worth coping ladies. So when Amy told me she wanted to surprise her honey Ben with a surprise trip I was totally excited. Not only would I get to practice my covert skills with her in the planning phase, I got to shoot this unique photo session. Now, if you know me I am a really bad liar, no poker face here, so I had to practice my lie to Ben in the car ride over to Galveston. My family tagged along as my assistants, and I quite think they enjoyed how nervous I was. Not only that, they too wished I hadn’t told them the truth about the shoot because they were afraid to spill the beans. Luckily for us we pulled it off! In Galveston, I pretended that we were having a normal shoot but I insisted Amy and Ben pretend they were going on a romantic get away. Although Ben was totally against the props, when Amy pulled out a map and travel wear, he had trouble telling the photographer no to one last prop, the actual boarding pass! He almost dismissed it as a joke, but soon realized he was being whisked away on a romantic adventure. It was a blast! Here is a sneak peek into the photo shoot.
Brides you need to check out the newest Etsy site for weddings! And it could not have come sooner because, I am totally pumped about doing some creative weddings after listening to Jasmin Star’s advice this past weekend on how to get weddings published. I know our brides have their deep rooted south traditions, but if your wanting your wedding to get notariety you need to think outside the box. Yes, you might have to fight your mom on the final details along the way, but your photos will be well worth it.
